{"id":4734,"date":"2023-06-27T10:40:43","date_gmt":"2023-06-27T08:40:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tresca.es\/uncategorized\/la-robla-hosts-clean-energy-generation-project\/"},"modified":"2023-10-13T15:06:53","modified_gmt":"2023-10-13T13:06:53","slug":"la-robla-hosts-clean-energy-generation-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tresca.es\/en\/uncategorized\/la-robla-hosts-clean-energy-generation-project\/","title":{"rendered":"La Robla will host an integrated project for the generation of clean energy and production of green e-methanol, a pioneer in the world"},"content":{"rendered":"<!--themify_builder_content-->\n<div id=\"themify_builder_content-4734\" data-postid=\"4734\" class=\"themify_builder_content themify_builder_content-4734 themify_builder tf_clear\">\n                    <div  data-lazy=\"1\" class=\"module_row themify_builder_row tb_h0tt669 tb_first tf_w\">\n                        <div class=\"row_inner col_align_top tb_col_count_1 tf_box tf_rel\">\n                        <div  data-lazy=\"1\" class=\"module_column tb-column col-full tb_322r669 first\">\n                    <!-- module text -->\n<div  class=\"module module-text tb_tzzh670   \" data-lazy=\"1\">\n        <div  class=\"tb_text_wrap\">\n        <ul>\n<li><strong>La Robla Green will comprise the first green energy generation plant from biomass with a negative CO\u2082 balance and the largest green e-methanol plant in Europe.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>The project consists of Roblum and Robla Nueva Energ\u00eda, two plants that, in an integrated process, simultaneously achieve clean energy generation and green e-methanol production, an increasingly demanded product.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Reolum, Tresca Ingenier\u00eda and Incus Capital are the three companies behind this initiative that seeks to revitalise this area of Just Transition.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Le\u00f3n, 22 June 2023 &#8211;<\/strong> Reolum, Tresca Ingenier\u00eda and Incus Capital are the three promoters of <strong>La Robla Green<\/strong>, a new integrated green energy project located in El Crisp\u00edn industrial estate in the municipality of La Robla in Le\u00f3n. It is made up of two cutting-edge facilities: <strong>Roblum<\/strong>, the first green energy generation plant with a negative CO<sub>2<\/sub> balacnce and <strong>La Robla Nueva Energ\u00eda<\/strong>, the largest green e-methanol plant in Europe, a sustainable product with multiple uses in sectors such as pharmaceuticals and green mobility.<\/p>\n<p>This integrated project responds to a demand for new business plans in the area linked to the new green economy and the common goal of curbing climate change, as well as the enormous challenge of eliminating net CO<sub>\u2082<\/sub> emissions by 2050. Moreover, it fits perfectly well with the administrations&#8217; aim to promote quality employment in Just Transition areas.<\/p>\n<h2>Two plants working synergistically<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Roblum <\/strong> is the first green power plant in the world with a negative carbon balance. This is possible because the CO\u2082 absorbed by biomass offsets the CO\u2082 produced in the facilities and, in the specific case of this plant, the CO\u2082 generated in the process of converting biomass into energy is captured and stored for use in green <strong>e-methanol production.<\/strong>. The plant&#8217;s manageable output of around <strong>290,000 tonnes of biomass<\/strong> will provide greater stability to the regional electricity system.<\/p>\n<p>Biomass is a renewable energy source from the controlled combustion of organic waste, and from agriculture in <strong>Roblum&#8217;s case.<\/strong> This waste represents millions of tonnes of material that, to a large extent, are currently not used. This is the case of Roblum&#8217;s three main sources of raw material: maize straw (hardly used at the moment), rye straw (not suitable for feeding livestock) and rapeseed. Valorising this agricultural waste will bring additional benefits to local farmers and the subsequent creation of stable and quality employment in rural areas, a common location for biomass. Furthermore, this encourages the cleaning of fields, the improvement of their phytosanitary condition and a decrease in the use of agrochemicals and fertilisers.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, <strong>La Robla Nueva Energ\u00eda<\/strong> is the largest <strong>green e-methanol<\/strong> plant in Europe. At its facilities, the CO\u2082 extracted from the biomass plant is mixed with green hydrogen produced by electrolysing water with renewable electrical energy to produce a CO2<sub>2<\/sub>neutral product that does not pollute water and remains liquid at room temperature. It is an essential product for decarbonising two sectors that face challenges in reducing emissions from their activities: chemical industry and transport.<\/p>\n<p><strong>La Robla Green<\/strong> project is therefore a key element in the ecological transition process in industries towards sustainable circular economy models and a strong response to the search for alternatives to fossil fuels in transportation through green e-methanol.<\/p>\n<h2>An economic boost for the region<\/h2>\n<p>To all this, we must add a very important objective for the companies behind the project: to revitalise an area, declared as Just Transition, where the population and economic growth declined since the dismantling of the old power plant and the progressive reduction of mining. This project will therefore imply an economic boost due to employment creation and the repopulation of a hard-hit area, which has lost up to 35% of its population in recent decades.<\/p>\n<p>In turn, the municipality of La Robla in Le\u00f3n is a perfect setting for the integrated project, due to its geographical location and its railway connections. This advantage makes it easier for the biomass plant to use agricultural waste that is not usually used. It also enables the green ethanol plant to be connected to the rest of Spain and to different ports for export to Europe and other continents.<\/p>\n<h2>Among other benefits,<\/h2>\n<p>the new project, whose construction is expected to be in the second half of 2024 and commissioning two years later, will attract talent and quality employment to a Just Transition area.<\/p>\n<p><strong>La Robla Green <\/strong>will involve a total investment of <strong> EUR 439 million<\/strong> and will lead to the creation of 450 jobs in the construction phase, as well as <strong>190 jobs<\/strong> in the operation phase, of which <strong>100 will be industrial<\/strong> and the other <strong>90 related to the activity derived from biomass<\/strong>, for a production of <strong>400 GWh\/year, 34 MWth of heat network and <\/strong> <strong>100k t\/year of green e-methanol. <\/strong>In addition, <strong>La Robla Green<\/strong> will provide some <strong>EUR 16 million<\/strong> <strong>a year<\/strong> of revenue for the <strong>agricultural and logistics sector<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In short, this is a project that encourages the use of renewable natural resources (agricultural waste) for the region of Castile and Le\u00f3n and valorises them for emission-neutral energy generation. It is made up of two cutting-edge facilities: <strong>Roblum<\/strong>, the first green energy generation plant with a negative CO<sub>2<\/sub> balacnce and <strong>La Robla Nueva Energ\u00eda<\/strong>, the largest green e-methanol plant in Europe, a sustainable product with multiple uses in sectors such as pharmaceuticals and green mobility.<\/p> <p>This integrated project responds to a demand for new business plans in the area linked to the new green economy and the common goal of curbing climate change, as well as the enormous challenge of eliminating net CO<sub>\u2082<\/sub> emissions by 2050. Moreover, it fits perfectly well with the administrations' aim to promote quality employment in Just Transition areas.<\/p> <h2>Two plants working synergistically<\/h2> <p><strong>Roblum <\/strong> is the first green power plant in the world with a negative carbon balance. This is possible because the CO\u2082 absorbed by biomass offsets the CO\u2082 produced in the facilities and, in the specific case of this plant, the CO\u2082 generated in the process of converting biomass into energy is captured and stored for use in green <strong>e-methanol production.<\/strong>. The plant's manageable output of around <strong>290,000 tonnes of biomass<\/strong> will provide greater stability to the regional electricity system.<\/p> <p>Biomass is a renewable energy source from the controlled combustion of organic waste, and from agriculture in <strong>Roblum's case.<\/strong> This waste represents millions of tonnes of material that, to a large extent, are currently not used. This is the case of Roblum's three main sources of raw material: maize straw (hardly used at the moment), rye straw (not suitable for feeding livestock) and rapeseed. Valorising this agricultural waste will bring additional benefits to local farmers and the subsequent creation of stable and quality employment in rural areas, a common location for biomass. Furthermore, this encourages the cleaning of fields, the improvement of their phytosanitary condition and a decrease in the use of agrochemicals and fertilisers.<\/p> <p>On the other hand, <strong>La Robla Nueva Energ\u00eda<\/strong> is the largest <strong>green e-methanol<\/strong> plant in Europe. At its facilities, the CO\u2082 extracted from the biomass plant is mixed with green hydrogen produced by electrolysing water with renewable electrical energy to produce a CO2<sub>2<\/sub>neutral product that does not pollute water and remains liquid at room temperature. It is an essential product for decarbonising two sectors that face challenges in reducing emissions from their activities: chemical industry and transport.<\/p> <p><strong>La Robla Green<\/strong> project is therefore a key element in the ecological transition process in industries towards sustainable circular economy models and a strong response to the search for alternatives to fossil fuels in transportation through green e-methanol.<\/p> <h2>An economic boost for the region<\/h2> <p>To all this, we must add a very important objective for the companies behind the project: to revitalise an area, declared as Just Transition, where the population and economic growth declined since the dismantling of the old power plant and the progressive reduction of mining. This project will therefore imply an economic boost due to employment creation and the repopulation of a hard-hit area, which has lost up to 35% of its population in recent decades.<\/p> <p>In turn, the municipality of La Robla in Le\u00f3n is a perfect setting for the integrated project, due to its geographical location and its railway connections. This advantage makes it easier for the biomass plant to use agricultural waste that is not usually used. It also enables the green ethanol plant to be connected to the rest of Spain and to different ports for export to Europe and other continents.<\/p> <h2>Among other benefits,<\/h2> <p>the new project, whose construction is expected to be in the second half of 2024 and commissioning two years later, will attract talent and quality employment to a Just Transition area.<\/p> <p><strong>La Robla Green <\/strong>will involve a total investment of <strong> EUR 439 million<\/strong> and will lead to the creation of 450 jobs in the construction phase, as well as <strong>190 jobs<\/strong> in the operation phase, of which <strong>100 will be industrial<\/strong> and the other <strong>90 related to the activity derived from biomass<\/strong>, for a production of <strong>400 GWh\/year, 34 MWth of heat network and <\/strong> <strong>100k t\/year of green e-methanol. <\/strong>In addition, <strong>La Robla Green<\/strong> will provide some <strong>EUR 16 million<\/strong> <strong>a year<\/strong> of revenue for the <strong>agricultural and logistics sector<\/strong>.<\/p> <p>In short, this is a project that encourages the use of renewable natural resources (agricultural waste) for the region of Castile and Le\u00f3n and valorises them for emission-neutral energy generation.
