The Regional Government of Castile and Le\u00f3n declares its strategic innovation and development plan of special interest and provides EUR 1.6 million for supporting the implementation of six pioneering projects in the energy sector<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n

The Le\u00f3n-based company will create 82 new jobs and aims to have 250 employees by 2027.<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n

<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Le\u00f3n, 22 August 2023.<\/u><\/strong> The Regional Government of Castile and Le\u00f3n has declared Tresca Ingenier\u00eda’s strategic plan of Special Interest, given its potential social, economic and business impact on the region. This way, the company from Le\u00f3n adds R&D to a growth strategy that began in 2022, allowing the creation of new jobs, up to 250 employees in 2027. A R&D plan that will serve to accelerate the commercial viability of cutting-edge projects for the creation of new green hydrogen fuels and that will drive the circular economy and European industry decarbonisation forward.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, the regional government of Castilla and Le\u00f3n not only endorses this plan with an investment of 4,955,339 EUR, but also strongly encourages this by approving a grant of 1,607,673 EUR to participate in six specific programmes whose results will be used to develop production plants of biomethane, green e-methanol, green ammonia, sustainable aviation fuels, and biochar for CO2 capture.<\/p>\n

Within R&D projects, particularly remarkable is the Maia project, which aims to promote sustainable green ammonia production, thus solving two main problems currently identified on green hydrogen: its storage and transport. This is because the ammonia energy density is much higher than that of hydrogen (calories per cubic metre increase significantly) and less space is therefore needed to store energy. This characteristic opens the door to the use of ammonia as fuel for high-volume, long-distance transport, as in the case of maritime transport, where engines are already being tested to replace fuel oil in ships with ammonia mixed with other fuels (fossil fuels, biofuels or hydrogen itself), or for the intensive industry that cannot access green hydrogen networks. In addition to its fuel capacity, there is also the enormous potential of its production for the decarbonisation of industries that currently use fossil ammonia as a raw material in the production of fertilisers, plastics or synthetic resins.<\/p>\n

Beyond this project, Tresca’s plan includes three others related to biomass: the project under development in La Robla, which will produce green e-methanol from the capture of CO2 from a biomass plant and green hydrogen; another project that will allow the design and implementation of biomethane production plants from the gasification of residual forest biomass, and the last one that will produce and use biochar from different biomasses.<\/p>\n

In addition, the Asterope project will make it possible to produce sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) by treating vegetable, waste or reused oils and animal fats with hydrogen, whereas the Electra project will boost renewable energy production and storage technologies with the purpose of electrifying and decarbonising the economy, like the overall strategic plan.<\/p>\n

Leader in the development of hydrogen technologies<\/strong><\/h4>\n

<\/strong>For some years now, Tresca has been the benchmark company in green hydrogen deployment in Spain. It has so far developed more than one hundred projects related to this new energy carrier, which is vital for decarbonising the economy and achieving the European sustainable objectives.<\/span><\/p>\n

The endorsement by the Regional Government of Tresca’s plan strengthens the growth project launched by the engineering company last year. A plan that has enabled them to strengthen the workforce in Le\u00f3n and Madrid offices in a clear commitment to attracting and developing talent and to opening a new office in Asturias, one of the key regions in the company’s plans.<\/p>\n

This way, the company from Le\u00f3n adds R&D to a growth strategy that began in 2022, allowing the creation of new jobs, up to 250 employees in 2027. A R&D plan that will serve to accelerate the commercial viability of cutting-edge projects for the creation of new green hydrogen fuels and that will drive the circular economy and European industry decarbonisation forward.<\/p> <p>Furthermore, the regional government of Castilla and Le\u00f3n not only endorses this plan with an investment of 4,955,339 EUR, but also strongly encourages this by approving a grant of 1,607,673 EUR to participate in six specific programmes whose results will be used to develop production plants of biomethane, green e-methanol, green ammonia, sustainable aviation fuels, and biochar for CO2 capture.<\/p> <p>Within R&D projects, particularly remarkable is the Maia project, which aims to promote sustainable green ammonia production, thus solving two main problems currently identified on green hydrogen: its storage and transport. This is because the ammonia energy density is much higher than that of hydrogen (calories per cubic metre increase significantly) and less space is therefore needed to store energy. This characteristic opens the door to the use of ammonia as fuel for high-volume, long-distance transport, as in the case of maritime transport, where engines are already being tested to replace fuel oil in ships with ammonia mixed with other fuels (fossil fuels, biofuels or hydrogen itself), or for the intensive industry that cannot access green hydrogen networks. In addition to its fuel capacity, there is also the enormous potential of its production for the decarbonisation of industries that currently use fossil ammonia as a raw material in the production of fertilisers, plastics or synthetic resins.<\/p> <p>Beyond this project, Tresca's plan includes three others related to biomass: the project under development in La Robla, which will produce green e-methanol from the capture of CO2 from a biomass plant and green hydrogen; another project that will allow the design and implementation of biomethane production plants from the gasification of residual forest biomass, and the last one that will produce and use biochar from different biomasses.<\/p> <p>In addition, the Asterope project will make it possible to produce sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) by treating vegetable, waste or reused oils and animal fats with hydrogen, whereas the Electra project will boost renewable energy production and storage technologies with the purpose of electrifying and decarbonising the economy, like the overall strategic plan.<\/p> <h4><strong>Leader in the development of hydrogen technologies<\/strong><\/h4> <p><strong> <\/strong>For some years now, Tresca has been the benchmark company in green hydrogen deployment in Spain. It has so far developed more than one hundred projects related to this new energy carrier, which is vital for decarbonising the economy and achieving the European sustainable objectives.<\/p> <p>The endorsement by the Regional Government of Tresca's plan strengthens the growth project launched by the engineering company last year.
