TRESCA INGENIERÍA PARTNERS WITH COMILLAS UNIVERSITY TO DEVELOP AN OPTIMISATION MODEL FOR THE PLANNING/OPERATION OF INDUSTRIAL SYSTEMS BASED ON GREEN HYDROGEN
The agreement aims to ensure that the software tool is to become a benchmark that will help industry and investors to make confident decisions based on all necessary data in projects related to green hydrogen.
León, 29 May 2022.
Madrid, 24 June, 2022. The Higher Engineering School (Comillas ICAI), belonging to Comillas Pontifical University, through the Institute of Technological Research(IIT), and Tresca Ingeniería have celebrated this morning at the academic headquarters the agreement whereby both parties shall carry out the development of an optimisation model for the planning/operation of industrial systems based on green hydrogen.
This agreement is the result of the collaboration over the last few months between the technical teams from both institutions and aims to meet the current needs of the main actors in the development of the new hydrogen-based economy. The aim is therefore to have a software tool that allows investors, developers, industry and end users to validate the viability of their green hydrogen plant developments in two aspects: technical and commercial.
Mariano Ventosa, Vice Rector for Research and Faculty at Comillas Pontifical University, said that “this agreement is yet another example of Comillas’ commitment to collaborative research with companies to solve real problems in society. In this case, the IIT at Comillas partners with Tresca Ingeniería, a benchmark company in the design of plants for renewable hydrogen production, to provide solutions that facilitate the development of such projects in Spain, convinced of the importance of green hydrogen as a key energy carrier to achieve the almost total decarbonisation of the economy. Under this agreement, the IIT brings extensive experience in the development of optimisation and simulation models for decision-making assistance in the energy sector.”
For his part, Tresca Ingeniería’s CEO,Francisco Carro, stressed that this is a very “important” agreement for the company and explained that the design of this software “aims to cover the needs identified through our experience and work in recent years in the implementation of such hydrogen plants. Currently, Tresca Ingeniería is already using a first version and what we intend is to add our capacity and experience in hydrogen to the IIT’s experience in this type of technical-economic models so that this tool becomes the validation standard for green hydrogen plants. We want to ensure that decision-making concerning modelling and validation of business models associated with this element is completely confident and, above all, independent and reliable.” Carro highlighted that Tresca Ingeniería is leader in developing industrial plants and, especially, hydrogen plants, which has lead it to become a national reference.
OPTIMAL AND SAFE ANALYSIS
The development of this tool by Comillas Pontifical University and Tresca Ingeniería is intended to make it easier for the industry the decision-making in the decarbonisation process currently underway, validating not only the integration of hydrogen in its processes but also its optimal deployment.
In that regard, the parties have made it clear that with this software the analysis that is carried out is “completely safe” and “with all the sufficient data”. It will therefore be possible to know the optimisation of a plant, to advance with guarantees in the replacement of natural gas by green hydrogen as fuel in industry, to analyse the cost of a hydrogen plant and also to know the profitability and bankability of a project.
In short, the purpose of this tool is to have at the disposal of all sector stakeholders (industries, constructors, equipment manufacturers, renewable energy developers, investment funds and family offices, utilities and banks) a reliable and independent means to help them make the best decision in an objective and rigorous manner.
About the Higher Engineering School (ICAI)
The tradition of the Higher Engineering School (Comillas ICAI) in the training of engineers began in Madrid in 1908. Today, Comillas ICAI is a polytechnic school whose academic activity focuses on industrial and telecommunications technologies. Comillas ICAI offers six-year study programmes that include bachelor and master degrees, which allow to become an Industrial Engineer or Telecommunications Engineer.
For its part, the Institute of Technological Research (IIT) is a university institute of Comillas ICAI devoted to research and training of researchers in technological fields, mainly related to the energy sector and especially to the electricity sector. The IIT is a leader in Spain in the development of integrated models for the operation and planning of energy systems, and has provided extensive international consultancy on electricity market design and grid regulation.
